Meet the Owners

Wellies Fish & Chips is a business created by the husband and wife team, David & Allison Wells. David is the third generation of fish friers in his famiy. His Grandad owned a Fish and Chip shop in Vine Street, Grantham and his parents had shops in Sleaford and Bridlington, on the East Yorkshire Coast. Whilst at Unive​rsity David and Allison worked in his parent's shop, gaining valuable experience and skills in the Fish and Chip trade. For the last 4 years they have lived in France running a successful holiday business, but both yearned to return to the UK and a new challenge.

After looking for many months they found an ideal shop in Grantham. Already running as a fish & chip shop, but with lots of potential to put their mark on it and to make it their own. In April 2012 they bought the shop and in July it closed for 2 weeks for a total refurbishment, including a £50,000 state of the art Kiremko frying range.

David was born in Grantham and started his working life age 16 at Barford’s Engineering as an apprentice. After the closure of the company he moved to Bridlington to work in his parents in their Fish and Chip Shop. There he met Allison and they both worked in the shop whilst studying at College and University. Eventually David returned to Grantham with their 3 children, and both he and Allison became Teachers. But running their own business was never far from their minds. Four years later they moved to France where they renovated and started their own holiday business, but family brought them back to Grantham and back to what they knew well, Fish & Chips.

Allison and David are heavily into training and developing staff and also raising the profile of Fish and Chips. They are committed to improving and maintaining the quality of their shops and the most importantly, the food and customer service.
